Aprés Le Sueur finished!

I finally got the binding, hanging sleeve, and label on Aprés Le Sueur, after the quilt arrived from my Amish hand-quilter and an exceedingly busy Autumn. Looking forward to future opportunities to exhibit this piece, and/or for it to be sold to a collector.

Note that the piecing is not strictly Flying Geese or half-square-triangles (HST’s). The triangles of the HST’s are of slightly different size, which allows the darker of the two pieces to float in a shimmering sea of ambers and yellows, as in the glorious background of Le Sueur’s painting from 1650.

As detailed in a previous post, this quilt is inspired by Eustache Le Sueur’s painting Meekness, which I saw in-person at its home in the Art Institute of Chicago. I am hoping to see the only other extant of his Beatitudes series in Strasbourg, France when I return to Alsace in 2028.

*For anyone who’s curious, my turquoise t-shirt says “Make Orwell Fiction Again.” I bought it at Comma, a bookshop a charming, independent bookstore in Linden Hills, Minnesota.
