Where’s Wolfmeyer?

Alongside a full-time job, weekend getaways with my husband, an out-of-state wedding, and generally enjoying another summer filled with yacht rock vibes, I managed to finish four quilts. One of them, New Harmony: Fire, is the third in a series—and it’s also the first quilt I’ve hand quilted myself in decades.

When I first started quilting back in the late ’90s, I hand quilted all my pieces. Then, after a wonderful and unexpected encounter with the late Virgie Hoffman, my quilts were hand quilted by dedicated groups working in Catholic church basements in northeastern Iowa, and later by mostly anonymous Amish women in Indiana.

Now, almost 30 years later, I’ve returned to hand quilting my own work. It takes time, but the process is deeply rewarding. I’m using Wonderfil Eleganza embroidery thread and am really happy with how the quilts are turning out. Currently, five quilt tops are ready for hand quilting (see below), one is already with an Amish quilter, and the remaining four are mine to perfect.
